UV Safety Month in Tallahassee

At Big Bend Family Eye Care, we take UV Safety Month is a great time to spread the message of sun, fun and UV safety to your community. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the main cause of skin cancer. UV rays can also damage your eyes.

Anyone can get skin cancer, but the risk is greatest for people with:

  • White or light-colored skin with freckles
  • Blond or red hair
  • Blue or green eyes

You can take these steps to help prevent skin cancer:

  • Stay out of the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher.
  • Cover up with long sleeves and a hat.
  • Check your skin regularly for any changes.

Most people are unaware that the sun can also damage your eyes. That is why we recommend wearing a hat and sunglasses that protect your eyes. Costa Del Mar & Maui Jim sunglasses offer some of the best protection for being out in the sun.

It’s probably not a bad idea to stop in and get your eyes checked by one of our optometrists, especially if you work outdoors quite a bit. While you’re in, check out our huge selection of sunglasses. The eye care professionals at Big Bend Family Eye Care can even get you fitted for prescription sunglasses!!! Already know it’s been a while since your last eye exam and we’ve guilted you enough?
